The White River is a tailwater fishery. Cold water flows from the bottom of the Bull Shoals Dam as needed to meet power demand or flood control issues.
Watch the water levels when wading. The river is big, powerful,
and
deceptive. Move to safe ground when the water level rises. There is
far too much good water to take any unnecessary chances. In
low-water conditions, the river is easily waded. Floating the river
is the best way to work the hatches, work the trout.
This cold water provides the habitat for
phenomenal trout fishing. Rainbow and Brown trout are most likely to
be caught, but you can also land Cutthroats and an occasional
Brookie. The North Fork River is a 20 minute drive from
your cabin. It is another blue ribbon trout fishery.
It can be difficult to predict water flows on a daily basis. The Southwest Power company posts their intended schedule around 5:00 p.m. so you can check the next day's plan. SWPA You can call 870-431-5311 to find out current generation and you can visit the Corp of Engineer's website to view the last 24 hours of water flow.
For spin casters, an ultralight medium spinning
rod with 4-8 pound test line will do just fine, but if you are
trophy hunting, a heavier weight outfit might better suit you. Fly
fishers will want a 9-foot, 4 or 5 weight outfit, and a 6 weight
won't be too heavy for some of these monsters and fast water.
In general late summer to early winter are more apt to have
consistently low flows. This is great for anglers who like to wade.
The Rim Shoals section is noted for exceptional wade fishing. It is
a designated trophy area and all fish caught must be released. To
learn more about rules and regulations be sure to visit

to purchase your fishing license at their site. We want you to have a safe and happy visit. If
it's your first time, consider hiring a guide to shorten the
